This year Ganesh Chaturthi falls on 13th September 2018.Lord Ganesha the God of Wisdom ,Prosperity ,the remover of obstacles and sorrows is welcomed with much devotion for the 10 days celebrations.
The recipes which are prepared during Ganesha Chaturthi festival varies from state to state.We all know that Lord Ganesha is a God who loves to eat. That is why, the celebration comes with the preparation of variety of special sweet recipes on this occasion, with the most popular one being "Modaks and Ladoos".

Til Modak / Sesame seeds Modak / Modak Varities
0 comments Posted by ST at Thursday, August 30, 2018Til Modak - A variation of usual modak . Only two ingredients are used here til /sesame seeds and jaggery .A unique combination of flavors is bound to get you addicted.
This is a quick modak recipe and comes handy if you don’t have much time. These til modaks can be served as offering to Lord Ganesha. Your family and mainly kids will love these til /Sesame seeds modaks as they are delicious and calcium rich. Its very easy to make and tastes yumm...
Ingredients:-
Til /Sesame seeds/ Nuvullu - 2 cups
Jaggery /Gud - 2 cups
Milk -2 tbsps (optional)
Method:-
1) Dry Roast Sesame seeds on low flame stirring continuously for 4-5 minutes in a heavy bottomed vessel till the rawness disappears and a nutty aroma emanates the kitchen. Roast till it turn pale golden colour not darker.. Switch off the flame.
2) Remove the til in the plate and allow them to cool down.
3) Grate or powder the Jaggery /Gud.
4) Grind the sesame seeds to coarse Powder in a mixer.
5) Add grated or powdered jaggery to the mixture.All together grind this mixture in a mixie till they are well combined.
7) When you grind this mixture in a mixie ,it becomes little oily which helps in binding into a modak.
8) If the mixture looks dry then add 1 or 2 tbsps of milk and grind in a mixie. The mixture will become sticky.
9) Remove the mixture into a plate .
10) Grease the modak moulds with a bit of butter or ghee . Place aside.
11) Make small balls from the mixture.
12) Take a small ball of til-jaggery mixture, place it in modak mould and press the til ladoo or til mixture with your fingers so that it gets the shape of mould.
13) Gently unmould and remove the excess modak mixture from the edges of the modak.
14) Place the modaks over a greased plate/ thali.
15) Repeat the same with the rest of mixture.
Til Modaks / Sesame seeeds Modaks are ready to offer Lord Ganesha as prasad.
16 )Store in an air tight container .
17) They stay good for a week to ten days. You can store in the fridge too for longer shelf life.
Tips:-
1) Use fresh sesame seeds and good quality jaggery to enjoy the chewy nutty taste of sesame seeds and the sweet flavor of jaggery.
2) Modak moulds are easily available in steel utensils shops or online in amazon also.
Lord Ganesha loves sweets. Modaks and ladoos are the favorite sweets of Lord ganesha and often served as naivedhyam or offering to Lord Ganesha.
Along with modaks, you can make ladoos like Coconut ladoo, Motichur Ladoo, Besan ladoo, Sabudana ladoo, Boondi ladoo, rava ladoo or Aval /Poha Ladoo.
Aval Ladoo is a quick and easy laddu recipe that you can make within minutes.With just 4 main ingredients poha,Roasted Split Gram / Daliya , ghee and sugar you can make ladoos in just few mins.
Try making this easy aval ladoos for this Ganesh Chaturthi .
Preparation Time : 10 mins | Cooking Time : 15 mins | Makes : 15 ladoos
Ingredients :-
Thick Aval /Poha /Beaten Rice- 1 cup
Chutney Dal / Daliya /Roasted Split Gram /Putnala Pappu - 1/2 cup
Sugar - 1 cup (Adjust according to ur taste)
Melted Ghee - 1/4 cup
Cardamom powder - 1/8 tsp
Cashews - 6 finely chopped
Method:-
1) First clean the poha and remove any dust if any.

3) In the same pan , add daliya / Roasted Split Gram /Putnala Pappu and dry roast for 2 mins on low flame. Remove to a plate .
4) Grind each of the roasted ingredients to a fine powder and keep them each in different bowls. Do not mix them.
5) Then grind sugar and cardamom to a fine powder.
6) In a tsp of ghee add the chopped cashews and fry till golden color.
7) In a mixing bowl add powdered poha, powdered daliya /Roasted Split Gram /Putnala Pappu ,powdered sugar , fried cashews,cardamom powder.Mix well.
8) Add melted ghee.Mix well and break the lumps formed.Start shaping them into ladoos.
If you have difficulty in shaping ladoos, add more ghee and make ladoos.
9) Store in air tight container upto 10 days.
Tips :-
Ensure you roast all the ingredients on very low flame. Do not burn them.
I used thick poha, you can use any variety you have either thick / thin /medium.
Adding daliya / Roasted Split Gram /Putnala Pappu gives a nice flavour to the ladoos.
Make sure you break all the lumps, mix well then shape them into ladoos.
