Wish you all a Very Happy and Prosperous New Year !!!!

Vinayaka Chavithi / Ganesh Chaturthi , is a day on which Lord Ganesha, the son of Shiva and Parvati, is believed to bestow his presence on earth for all his devotees. Vinayaka Chavithi is celebrated as it is the birthday of Lord Ganesha worshipped as the supreme god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. It is celebrated on the Suddha Chavithi day (the fourth day after the no-moon day) of the lunar month Bhadrapada maasam (August/September). The festival lasts for 10 days, ending on Ananta Chaturdashi.
This is a special festival which evokes my childhood memories that are very dear to me. Vinayaka Chavithi is one of my favorite festivals I always looked forward to during my childhood. We would go shopping the earlier day with our parents and buy all the pooja material, clay idol of Lord Ganesha .
We would wake up very early and get prepared for pooja and place the clay idol of Lord Ganesha and place our school books before the idol, along with fruits and naivedyam as its believed that the Lord would help us do well in our studies and overcome all obstacles in life and bless us.
Amma would prepare the naivedyam and after that my parents would read the life story of Lord Ganesha (which explains the significance of performing the pooja) and chant the mantras while we would sprinkle akshantalu (raw rice mixed in turmeric pwd), patri (leaves) ,durva and flowers.
Lord Vinayaka is said to be fond of “Undrallu” which is mainly prepared from rice flour. Different varieties of undrallu both savory and sweet ones “Kudumulu” are prepared and offered as naivedyam / prasadam to Lord Vinayaka.

Undrallu:-

Undrallu are savory rice balls made from rice rava and bengal gram dal. Very simple to prepare and absolutely healthy as its steamed. Click for recipe Here.

These look lovely, Sireesha. I remember my Dad's side of the family, which is from Karnataka, making the undrallu. We also made another dish called patoli which used a filling similar to the one you describe for the kudumulu, but it was steamed in turmeric leaves. The flavor was unbelievable!
    Happy Ganesh Chaturthi!
