One particular dish I always liked was Amma’s Raw Mango Dal(Mamidikaya Pappu). Everyday boring dal would dazzle with the addition of sour and tangy mangoes. I can eat it continuously for many days can't get bored of it....
Ingredients:-
Mango(sour) - 1 no
Toor dal - 1 cup
Dry red chillies - 1-2
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds -1 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - A fistful
Salt - As reqd
Hing a pinch
Oil - 2 tbsp
Green chillies - 5-6
Method:-
1)Peel the mangoes and cut into small slices.
2)Place the toor dal and the mango slices in a pressure cooker dish.
3)Add turmeric powder and green chilly pieces and cook until the toor dal and mango slices are cooked smooth.
4)Add salt.
5)For seasoning Add oil to a frying pan and heat.
6)Splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds and the red chilly pieces, curry leaves ,hing.
7)Now add this seasoning to the dal mix well and allow it to cook for 2-3 more minutes.
8) Turn off the heat and serve hot and delicious 'Ambe Daal' / Mamidikaya Pappu (Mango Dal) with Chapatti or with Jeera Rice or with plain rice and papad.
